1:1 Coaching

Do any of these sound like you?

“I haven’t come out yet, but want to - I just don’t know how to navigate it all.”

“I feel so behind for my age - people around me seem lightyears ahead of me in terms of dating, sex, and feeling comfortable in their skin!”

“I feel so sad watching shows like Heartstopper and other queer YA media - these teen characters are experiencing things I didn’t get to when I was their age.”

“I think I’m going through my Second Adolescence, and could use some help figuring all of this out!”

“I want to more intentionally let go of the shame I internalized growing up within anti-queerness and feel more free to be all of who I am.”

If any of these sound like you and you’re looking for additional support, I may be able to help.

Coaching for LGBTQ+ Adults

I’m Adam James Cohen. In addition to hosting the Second Adolescence podcast, I’m a psychotherapist and coach who supports LGBTQ+ adults in moving through their Second Adolescence.

(NOTE: I provide psychotherapy to folks who live in California (visit my therapy practice here) and offer coaching to folks all over. For differences between coaching and therapy, see FAQ section below.)

In my coaching with LGBTQ+ folks, I help people:

  • understand how they are feeling, and get clear on what they want.

  • explore how the context within which they grew up impacted them (and their younger selves), specifically exploring the internalization of shame and anti-queerness, toxic gender roles, and other limiting beliefs that still get in their way today.

  • move through the process and tasks of Second Adolescence.

  • utilize the tools of self-compassion, active relationship with our younger selves, and specific interventions that support LGBTQ+ healing and liberation.

In addition, ample space is given to address specific things currently causing folks suffering today, including: sex related concerns, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, dissatisfying substance use, dissatisfying sexual behaviors, challenging family/peer relationships, inner criticism, or lack of meaningful friendships/community.

Coaching FAQs

  • Both coaching and therapy provide a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental space to process your experience, be seen and heard, and work towards your goals. Both can involve the exploration of your past as an influence on your present and future.

Therapy is a regulated mental health treatment administered by licensed professionals. Therapy treats clinical mental health challenges that are experienced to the degree that the client is unable to manage those mental health challenges independently. Therapy provides the most healing and intervention in each appointment.

Coaching is a catch-all term for a currently unregulated field of various modalities and certifications. Coaching supports individuals with their goals, be they mental, emotional, social or physiological, depending on the modality of the coach. The nature of coaching is such that most of the work and transformation occurs in between appointments integrating what was worked on in session.

Therapists can and frequently do provide coaching as an integrated part of their practice when the presenting issue warrants it. Coaches cannot provide therapy.

  • I work with folks in 12 week, 24 week, or 36 week coaching engagements. Each engagement involves weekly 60 minute coaching sessions and guided work to be done independently in between sessions.

The length of engagement is determined by the client’s goals.

  • A reduced fee of $95.00 is offered for the first full appointment to support clients in confirming working together feels like a good fit before additional financial investment is made.

Ongoing coaching for 12 Week, 24 Week, and 36 Week Coaching Engagements is $230.00/week

    • includes weekly 60 minute coaching appointments via Zoom and guided support in between appointments.

**to support equitable access to coaching I reserve a select amount of sliding scale/reduced fee spaces for those who cannot afford my full fee. Please reach out to see if this is currently available.

  • Yes. Though it is typically recommended to engage in this work weekly (especially at the beginning of new coaching engagements), there is flexibility to adjust the frequency of appointments to fit each client’s unique situation, needs, and availability.

This is also the reason my coaching practice has a weekly payment model vs. a monthly one - to allow folks the flexibility to determine the right frequency of our work without added financial responsibility.

  • Coaching engagements can be cancelled or paused at any point, even if previously committed to the 12, 24, or 36 week model.

Weekly Cancellation Policy: Appointment cancellations made at least 24 hours ahead of time do not come with any financial responsibility. Clients are financially responsible for no-show or late cancelled appointments (cancelled under 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time). Complimentary make-up appointments can be scheduled for late cancel or no-show appointments if able to be rescheduled within the same business week.

  • All coaching is provided virtually via Zoom.

  • Monday-Thursday 10:00a-6:00p PT availability depending.
