Coaching for LGBTQ+ Adults
I’m Adam. In addition to hosting the Second Adolescence podcast, I’m a psychotherapist and coach who supports LGBTQ+ adults in moving through their Second Adolescence.
(NOTE: I provide psychotherapy to folks who live in California (visit my therapy practice here) and offer coaching to folks all over the world. For differences between coaching and therapy, see FAQ section below.)
I help LGBTQ+ folks feel less stuck and more okay. In our work together, we work to:
understand how you are feeling, and get clear on what you want.
explore how the context within which you grew up impacted you (and your younger selves), specifically exploring the internalization of shame and anti-queerness, toxic gender roles, and other limiting beliefs that still get in your way today.
move through the process and tasks of Second Adolescence.
utilize the tools of self-compassion, active relationship with your younger selves, and other interventions that support LGBTQ+ healing and liberation.
In addition, ample space is given to address other aspects of life currently challenging you today, including: sex related concerns, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, dissatisfying substance use, dissatisfying sexual behaviors, challenging family/peer relationships, inner criticism, or lack of meaningful friendships/community.
Coaching FAQs
-
Both coaching and therapy provide a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental space to process your experience, be seen and heard, and work towards your goals. Both can involve the exploration of your past as an influence on your present and future.
Therapy is a regulated mental health treatment administered by licensed professionals. Therapy treats clinical mental health challenges that are experienced to the degree that the client is unable to manage those mental health challenges independently. Therapy provides the most healing and intervention in each appointment.
Coaching is a catch-all term for a currently unregulated field of various modalities and certifications. Coaching supports individuals with their goals, be they mental, emotional, social or physiological, depending on the modality of the coach. The nature of coaching is such that most of the work and transformation occurs in between appointments integrating what was worked on in session.
Therapists can and frequently do provide coaching as an integrated part of their practice when the presenting issue warrants it. Coaches cannot provide therapy.

Yes. Though it is typically recommended to engage in this work weekly (especially at the beginning of new coaching engagements), there is flexibility to adjust the frequency of appointments to fit each client’s unique situation, needs, and availability.
This is also the reason my coaching practice has a weekly payment model vs. a monthly one - to allow folks the flexibility to determine the right frequency of our work without added financial responsibility.
-
All coaching is provided virtually via Zoom.
